1-GV-461 Relief Lift Station L-81
What makes it interesting?
The work site for the project is within 50 feet of a major multi-story medical facility and within 10 feet of an existing major sanitary sewer pipe. The grouting and structure work is being performed in the middle of a challenging Midwest winter, with temperatures regularly below 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

Project Description:
The 1-GV-461 Relief Lift Station L-81 project is the construction of a new 37-foot by 39-foot cast-in-place concrete lift station 47 feet deep using the “sunken caisson method” on a very small urban site. The station is being poured in lifts on top of the surface and then lowered into the ground sequentially as soil is removed from the inside.
In addition to the pump station, the project requires approximately 70,000 linear feet of drilling for installation of grouting pipe for soil solidification, in excess of 100,000 gallons of solidification and permeation grout for soil conditioning and installation of new utilities to connect the new facility.
