Taxiway NB George Bush Intercontinental Airport
What makes it interesting?
Multiple phases of the project had to be budgeted separately in order to generate cost and production days for each task. The contract had high damages for each phase not completed on time. There were 125 bid items issued for this project, but they were not separated into each required phase. This is the fourth project in a row that George Bush Intercontinental Airport has awarded to a HeavyBid user.
How HCSS Software assisted with this project
The ability to manipulate multiple activities for a single bid item enabled production and estimating to get a clear understanding of the project complexities. The results were a low bid of $42,559,404, which was only 0.72 percent under the next bidder and marks the fourth project in a row at George Bush Intercontinental Airport has awarded using the HeavyBid software.
The Taxiway NB George Bush Intercontinental Airport project is a widening of an existing taxiway that had to be phased in 10 different areas in order to accommodate existing airport traffic. It consisted of the removal of 140,000 square yards of 18-inch concrete paving with associated lighting, utilities, and sub-base, and replacment of the taxiway with 171,000 square yards of 18-inch concrete. The project utilized the existing concrete that was demolished to make the recycled concrete sub-base, saving the cost of imported select product.
